IN SILENCE
The Dodo Collective

1 – 13 December 2009

In their third group exhibition, the Dodo Collective present 6 video works based on the idea of silence.

This theme was chosen to enable the work to integrate into the communal space of the Exchange Dublin, allowing visitors to continue to use the facilities as a meeting point without the exhibition acting as an overpowering intrusion, yet still providing people with material to engage with.

Further more, the theme of silence allows for reflection on the idea of the vacuum, and incapacitation of a sense. It is precisely the collective’s aim to negate an audio ‘soundtrack’ that would be presumed as intrinsic to the contemporary urban experience – this is a way of emphasizing the loss of an element of communication, the loss of a voice.

Here there is a cross-over between the thematic content of the exhibition and the values of the location which houses it – where the collective’s work withdraws a sense, the Exchange endeavors to empower it.
