'Co-ordinates'
GAJES Collective

15th - 17th April 2010

Exhibition Opening on Thursday 15th April 2010 at 6.30 pm

Gajes is a collective of innovative, up-and-coming international artists aware of the Dublin’s vibrant and constantly expanding cultural scene. The term Gajes is a ‘Gypsy’ word for ‘non-gypsies’.

The members originate from six different countries, including the USA, Germany, Canada, France, Italy, Ireland and the UK, a mix of Irish, Dublin based artists, as well as students of internationally renowned Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London, and other creative backgrounds.

The variety of artistic outcomes are tied together by the notion of mobility and displacement, intervention and exchange with the Dublin art world.

The work has either been shipped to Dublin or carried in hand luggage, on a memory stick, in somebody’s pocket or created by the artist when they arrive in the city.

It has been transported to the country in a plethora of obscure ways and share a fresh feeling of being new to Ireland’s capital.

Exchange Gallery provides an infrastructure for inquiry, discourse and collaboration’ for artists.

Graffiti artist Anthony Sands from Dublin shares a wall with Canadian video artist Sydney Southam. More traditional oil painter Eva Blanche of Germany is in dialogue with ceramicist Alix Marie from Paris. A short story is mixed with found objects along a wall with projected light images onto painting and sculpture in the round.

As a collective we will be mapping our way from our London base to selected cities across Europe including Barcelona, Milan and Paris during 2010.

Private View : Thursday 15th April 6.30pm to 9.00pm
