Vet is a joint show of Sinead McDonald and Darren Carr’s documentary work.

Sinead’s work was taken over a 14 month period, and documents the activities of Darren at work in a veterinary practice in Co. Sligo. By highlighting the aesthetic and theatrical aspects of the environment, the visceral, often disturbing imagery of life and death is brought into focus, alongside the everyday surgeries and consultations.

Darren’s work takes in a similar time frame and subject matter. Here though, the landscapes, both interior and exterior, are represented from the viewpoint of the protagonist of Sinead’s work. They are therefore more personal in nature, becoming almost domestic.

What does Exchange mean to you? 29th of September 2011 – 15th of October 2011
An Exhibition by Franziska Ruhnau

My idea for the exhibition was inspired by the question, asked every day, ‘What is this
space?’

‘What does exchange mean to you?’ wants to give Exchange Dublin a face and show

how diverse this space is seen and used. The Exhibition shows, that every person has a
different answer to this question and tries to make the idea of the space tangible.
It also invites people to reflect on Exchange themselves and take part in the exhibition
by answering the question, becoming part of a growing, colorful wall of quotes for the
duration of the exhibition.

In my time as a member of the collective I realised, that Exchange Dublin is a safe and
free space, where people tend to act like nobody is watching. People are allowed just
to be, without social strictures or any pressure to be successful in whatever they do.
Exchange Dublin allows human beings just to be and provides the space to develop and
explore your creative skills and abilities. That’s what makes this place so unique and gives
Exchange Dublin its atmosphere.

For me it’s important to show photographs of people in the space when they are not aware
of being photographed to give these pictures an authentic impression.

This exhibition is meant to be my own reflection on the space; a growing process of
reflection for people in the space; and last but not least a gift to the space – and lots of
different answers to the same question.
Whatever this is: It is the space, its diversity, its inherent beauty.

***Special thanks to Hannah Knips my 24hour muse and mentor!***

I hope many of you come along and become part of this collaborative project! I’m looking
forward to see you around!

Majella Dowdican’s work focuses on the notion of potentiality. Potentiality both in
terms of the materials used, and also, in the sense of the anticipation that the artist
creates using such materials. The work is simple yet absurd. The familiar objects
and imagery that Dowdican employs entice viewers into her ‘world’, however, this
familiarity offers no repose as it soon becomes apparent that this is a world gone
slightly askew. The viewer is constantly confronted by the fabrication of the work,
whether constructed or deconstructed, making the artists presence obvious, and in
turn highlighting the artist-audience roles. The interventions that Dowdican creates
are suggestions of what might be beyond, how things may culminate. However, this
sense of potential is often marred by the self-reflexive nature of the work, lending an
unsettling quality to it.

Majella Dowdican (b.1987) is a recent graduate from G.M.I.T, Galway (2010). Since
graduating she has completed the Galway Arts Centre ‘Mentored Residency Award’
and most recently has participated in a residency in the ‘School of Visual Art’, New
York.

Declan Greaney presents
CHEAP THR!LL
New work by
NO!DEA
July 15- 29 2011

Launch: Friday 15 July 6-11pm

Fishbowl Gallery
Exchange Dublin
Exchange Street Upper
Temple Bar
Dublin 2
Ireland

CHEAP THR!LL is a post-script to Ireland’s ‘beautiful’ recent past, as the poster boys and girls of
European success. Our babylon has fallen, the I.M.F. et al. pick over the remains of the financial
institutions, while our government figure out how they cut the last gristle from almost clean bones.

We wonder where do we go from here? On the edge of Europe with no significant industry and few
natural resources to speak of, where indeed?

This body of work speaks of a profound shock and ‘grief’ at our changing fortunes. It casts a
darkly humorous view of the situation, the oscillating moods of depression and denial, caution and
optimism. Should we put our spare cash under the mattress for a rainy day? –or spend it on cheap
thrills if only to remember how things once were, or perhaps will be again!

NO!DEA (Declan Greaney) has been painting and exhibiting for many years. He has exhibited in
Temple Bar Gallery, Ardgillan Castle, the Bar Council of Ireland, Science Gallery and the National
Botanic Gardens. His work is in the Irish State collection, the collections of the National Botanic
Gardens and Trinity College Dublin, and in private collections at home and overseas.

This is his first solo show of figuative Art under the name NO!DEA.

The Artist wishes to acknowledge and thank Exchange Dublin for their co-operation and support in
the use of the venue.

Give Away: 16th @ 6pm (come early)

Completely gobsmacked by the way the banks in collusion with the government have behaved throughout the financial crisis I felt I had to say something.I had done several paintings highlighting greed and consumerism but I wanted to reach a broader audience with as strong a statement as I possibly could,The opposite to greed is generosity.I decided to do three hundred paintings and give them all away.

The opportunity arose when I was approached by Mutate Britain saying they had a space right in the heart of the city,London’s financial sector and would I be ready to exhibit in five weeks?Even as I was saying ”yes”the reality of creating that many paintings in such a short space of time was pretty overwhelming,I set to work. The ideas came quick and fast and the it began to take on a life of its own,in fact it was the most prolific and enjoyable the creative process had ever been for me with the added bonus of saying something about all the themes that run through my work-consumerism,banks ,globalisation and where east and west collide .After an intense non-stop painting frenzy they were ready-all three hundred of them. The show itself was an absolute joy, especially watching how the bankers reacted. In fact very few of them came and got a free painting(particularly the ones in the more expensive suits)I think they found it difficult to access and download the fact that someone was giving away something for nothing. Most of the subject matter would seriously disrupt the feng-shui of their offices anyway. It was mostly the lower paid workers who claimed their free art and all the paintings were gone in ninety minutes(if only all my exhibitions were as enjoyable as this one).A video of the show is on youtube-mutate Britain, peterdunne.

Now I’m going to do it all over again, this time in my home town Dublin which is perfect for this type of show as the Irish public has been given a particularly rough deal from the eejits(politicians, bankers, property developers and the regulators) who were on autopilot with the greed button stuck on go.The anti greed giveaway takes place in the Exchange gallery on exchange street from the 5th of June with the giveaway on the 16th,Come and get your free art!

The artist has to convey hisinspiration to others while allowing them freedom and interpretation.”(LiuChun Hau)
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, or so one is led to believe.
Artistic endeavors are open to interpretation from each and every encounter, engagement with an art piece is mercurial. An artist may intend for onemessage to be conveyed but this can change recurrently upon interaction andengagement.
What if it became possible to relay interpretations of visual art sonically? Howthen do we consider the resulting venn diagram?
This is what ‘Audiolise’ aims to do. Working with a diverse team of Irish artists, both emerging and established from all over the country, we will use theirwork as the starting point to dive into a world of imagination and interpretation.By utilising emerging technology as the tool to harness opinion, the exhibitionis only the first stage of the process. Post-exhibition the users sonic choiceswill be amalgamated and analysed in order to attempt to establish anunderstanding of perception.
You are invited to take part in this unique project in the Exchange Gallery inDublin (http://exchangedublin.ie/) on the 19th May for one night only. Artistsfeatured: Eoin Mac Lochlainn, Diana Muller, Sean Cotter, Erin Treacy, KenBrowne, Susan Mc Evoy, Anne Muller and Ben Readman.

He is
a member of the IGI (Illustrators Guild of Ireland) and AI (Associazione Illustratori Italiani) and the
author of nerosunero.

LÜrzer’s Archive included Mario Sughi in their compilation “200 best illustrators worldwide 2009”.
Mario has also received awards at the 31th&30th Annuals of Italian Illustrators (2010&2011) , 7th 3×3
Magazine Annual (2010), 29th American Illustrators ((2010), and Aesthetica Creative Works Annual

Last solo exhibition: A new sense of emptyness, Greenroom Manchester, 8 Sept – 23 Oct. 2010,
curated by Blank Media Collective.
Íontas Gallery, Conabury Castleblayney,Co. Monaghan, Ireland7 Feb. 4 March 2011

Illustrator Mario Sughi brilliantly captures light and shadow in his illustrations with the delicate
application of eye-popping color reminiscent of vector art. His subjects are seemingly involved in
everyday ordinary encounters, but this transforms into something much more intriguing upon further
inspection. Whether it be a hint of “more to the picture than meets the eye” by placement of a subject
or idea just far enough off the canvas to make you wonder, or subjects staring directly at you with a
knowing look, you cannot help but to ponder “What are they thinking?”. His pieces are like a single
page in a book, it gives just a hint of the story.

“Do not be deceived by the saturated colours in Mario Sughi’s latest illustrations, as they are but false
promises of envy-provoking days, nights and lives. This playful (or is it cheeky?) portrait of a society
that is not without temptation dazzles with its bright lights and sharp lines. The candy colours are a
front for A New Sense of Emptiness, also the title of Sughi’s upcoming exhibition. Sughi makes us
want to buy into this, but lets us know there is no product behind the display.
A New Sense of Emptiness runs Sept. 10 – Oct.23, 2010 at Greenroom Arts in Manchester.”
