What does Exchange mean to you? 29th of September 2011 – 15th of October 2011
An Exhibition by Franziska Ruhnau

My idea for the exhibition was inspired by the question, asked every day, ‘What is this
space?’

‘What does exchange mean to you?’ wants to give Exchange Dublin a face and show

how diverse this space is seen and used. The Exhibition shows, that every person has a
different answer to this question and tries to make the idea of the space tangible.
It also invites people to reflect on Exchange themselves and take part in the exhibition
by answering the question, becoming part of a growing, colorful wall of quotes for the
duration of the exhibition.

In my time as a member of the collective I realised, that Exchange Dublin is a safe and
free space, where people tend to act like nobody is watching. People are allowed just
to be, without social strictures or any pressure to be successful in whatever they do.
Exchange Dublin allows human beings just to be and provides the space to develop and
explore your creative skills and abilities. That’s what makes this place so unique and gives
Exchange Dublin its atmosphere.

For me it’s important to show photographs of people in the space when they are not aware
of being photographed to give these pictures an authentic impression.

This exhibition is meant to be my own reflection on the space; a growing process of
reflection for people in the space; and last but not least a gift to the space – and lots of
different answers to the same question.
Whatever this is: It is the space, its diversity, its inherent beauty.

***Special thanks to Hannah Knips my 24hour muse and mentor!***

I hope many of you come along and become part of this collaborative project! I’m looking
forward to see you around!
