Janus' Threshold II
Paulina Sandberg

21st - 31st July 2010

Exhibition Opening Wed 21st July 5.30 - 7pm
Artists talk at 5.30.

For the exhibition Janus’ Threshold II, Paulina Sandberg presents a mirage of a nettle forest, a reflecting plant barrier re-habitated across the Irish Sea from its first appearance in the Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop pavilion. The installation in its second instalment, adapted for the Exchange Gallery space, is a reworking of an installation made during a residency at the ESW in January this year. The then nocturnal vision created in mid winter now reappears as a forest of sharp nettles, an impenetrable day dream. Visibility restricted by reflection.

Paulina Sandberg is a Swedish artist based in Edinburgh. She works with installation, video and drawing and is interested in how we experience and relate to nature and to what extent we can understand what lies beyond us. Her site-specific work often involves her interference with a recognised environment in order to alter the viewer’s perception and experience.

In 2008 she co-founded artist-run initiative echo, organising art events and exhibitions in unusual locations.
